Covent Garden
Covent Garden was once the central vegetable and fruit market for London and it is still home to the famous opera house. It is now a cultural centre, shoppers' haven and tourist trap. Don't try getting here by car, as even if you pay the entry fee you'll find it difficult to get down the narrow streets and there's no parking around. Try the underground (Piccadilly line) instead. Loved by both the English and by the ever-present tourists, who are attracted by the market, the restaurants and the pubs. The closed market, found at the centre of the square, has everything from fresh fruit to antiques. Not much chance of finding somewhere to live here, but it's fun to visit.
