Where to live in Dublin
In recent years Dublin has suffered the effects of an economic downturn, including unemployment, emigration and the closure of many of its once bustling shops and restaurants. Housing is less expensive than it was during the booming Celtic Tiger years, from the late 1990s until 2008, but in 2013 prices began to rise once more. Many people working in Dublin commute from the suburbs and towns outside the capital, which is served by a modern road network and an efficient transport system. Dublin is home to numerous multinational high-tech companies such as Facebook, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft, giving an international feel to what was until recently a provincial capital. However James Joyce would still be able to recognise many of his old haunts, and even many of the traits of the old society in which he lived.
