The new minister for transport, construction and housing, Wolfgang Tiefensee, has officially opened the renovated Bode Museum on Berlins museum island on the Spree river. The opening ceremony offered a sneak preview of the delights in store for art lovers. However visitors will have to wait till summer to view the neo-baroque masterpiece and its wealth of exhibits. The restoration of the museum took five and a half years and 152million to complete, making a total of two out of the five museums on the narrow island in the Spree river to have been given a facelift. Modern security and sanitation have been fitted and close attention paid to the renewing of original architectural detail. The museum will house exhibits dating from the end of antiquity to mid-18th century.
