Bus Eireann has decided to install CCTV (closed-circuit television) cameras on its 180-strong fleet of city buses in response to increasing levels of vandalism and anti-social behaviour. The decision follows the spate of violence on Cork and Limerick-bound buses over Halloween, which saw drivers threatened, bus tyres slashed, seats ripped and fires started on board. Bus Eireann services run between Dublin and Limerick, Cork, Galway and Waterford. The CCTV systems are to be installed by early 2007.
