A multi-million pound project to redevelop Oxfords West End area, from St Aldates to the railway station and from the Thames to Hythe Bridge Street, is to be put up for public consultation in July this year. The West End Area Action Plan includes construction of about 1,200 new homes, shops and the creation of four public squares along a tree-lined Oxpens boulevard. There are also proposals for a new council building in Oxpens, which would become the headquarters of both the Oxfordshire county council and the city council. Oxford ice rink is likely to be demolished for the redevelopment but would be replaced by a new ice-skating facility.
