Copenhagen targets smokers

Copenhagen hopes that only four per cent of its inhabitants will be smokers in 2025 instead of the 21 per cent who smoke at present.

The city is planning free courses to encourage people to stop smoking, as well as extensive no-smoking advertising and promotional campaigns involving associations, businesses and sports sponsors.

Smoking is banned in most public areas such as offices, restaurants, educational establishments and hospitals but the city is hoping to persuade almost all its residents to given up the habit completely.
