London councils and Transport for London (TfL) are to institute a database of lost or stolen blue badges, which give parking rights to disabled motorists. The move comes in response to an increase in their fraudulent use by ineligible drivers. Thanks to the new database, traffic wardens will be able to identify blue badge cheats and issue fines or have vehicles towed away. The scheme will be given a three-month trial in Camden, Croydon, Kensington and Chelsea, Islington, Tower Hamlets and on TfL's Red Route network starting in October.
