The popular open-air paddling pool at Cutteslowe Park has been shut down until September as a result of the hosepipe and sprinkler ban imposed on 3 April and attempts by Oxford city council to save water. The pool requires 10,000 litres of water a day to fill it and the closure will save around one million litres over the summer holiday season. The Hinksey open-air pool, which has a special splash feature for children, is still operating off the Abingdon Road. After two consecutive dry winters, river and groundwater levels across the Thames Valley are still low despite rainfall in May.
