Docks Bruxsel to open in one year

Countdown for largest Brussels retail site in nearly 40 years.

The inauguration of the enormous retail site Docks Bruxsel, currently under construction, has been scheduled for 20 October 2016.

Located on the banks of the canal in the north of the city, Docks Bruxsel is described as a "new shopping district" on its website and will be the largest retail site in the Brussels region since the central City 2 mall opened in 1978.

The new development will comprise a shopping centre with cinema, restaurants, cultural, leisure and childrens' activities, and shoppers will be provided with a range of extra facilities including the use of free pushchairs and umbrellas.

City authorities have welcomed the project which they say will contribute to the redevelopment of the area north of the canal and should createe 1,000 new jobs. The Docks Bruxsel management team says that 80 per cent of retail spaces have already been allocated.
