There are now 24 German shepherd dogs patrolling the capitals underground system in a pilot scheme involving eight metro lines and 57 stations. The idea is to make the Madrid underground a safer place for passengers. The dogs will help to reduce vandalism and delinquency as well as limiting the work of graffiti artists. The dogs will also be used on night-time patrols. Metro officials will receive a five-day dog-handling course.
