Marijuana can no longer be smoked on the streets of West Amsterdam under a new bylaw attempting to limit petty crime in the de-Baarsjes neighbourhood, one of the poorest quarters of Amsterdam. Offenders will be fined 50. The new rules came into force on 1 February. Special anti-dope smoking street signs have been put up in the district and have already become collectors items; following the theft of one of the signs, the city council has decided to put them on sale for 90 each, with the proceeds going to charity
