It costs 2 million a day to keep Dublin going, according to the figures produced by the citys manager John Fitzgerald in November, when he revealed the ambitious new investment plans for the capital. Parnell Square is due for a facelift, with 13 million earmarked for the Hugh Lane Gallery, which will be double its previous size when it reopens in March 2006. The citys municipal art gallery has the largest public collection of 20th-century Irish art. The budget also includes 1 billion for infrastructure, including the completion of the Dublin Port Tunnel. It is Fitzgeralds declared aim to make Dublin one of the most sought-after cities in Europe.
