Dutch big internet shoppers

Dutch consumers are among the top online shoppers in Europe.

In 2011 65 per cent of 16-75 year old shopped online. This puts the Netherlands in fourth place behind the UK, Sweden and Denmark, according to Statistics Netherlands, the country’s national statistics unit.

The percentage of online shoppers has increased by 20 per cent since 2006, with the greatest growth being among the 65-75 year olds.

Travel tickets and holiday accommodation account for 60 per cent of online sales. Clothes and sports items, tickets for events and books, magazines and newspapers are other popular shopping items.

Sales of financial services and hardware have fallen since 2006.
