Two Dutch bookshops have been named among the 20 most beautiful bookshops in the world. The Selexyz Bookstore in Maastricht heads the list and the American Book Center in Amsterdam, which also has a branch in The Hague, has been ranked at 17 by the US cultural website flavorwire.com.

The store in Maastricht is in a converted Dominican church. The one in central Amsterdam at Spui 12 was once a piano store until it was converted into a bookshop in 2006 by Yaniv Turgeman, with a book-lined staircase and a tree reaching through two floors.
