Electricity prices are likely to rise in Jersey by at least 25 per cent next year, the Jersey Electricity Company has warned. And Jersey Gas has announced that its prices will rise by up to 20 per cent in August.

The announcements add to consumer difficulties who were hit with 5.6 per cent inflation recently on top of an already expensive year, with the introduction of the General Sales Tax (GST), rising food costs and petrol charges.

Jersey Gas has said that from August the tariffs and standing charges would increase by five per cent, and the price of gas per unit would increase by 2.13p.

This makes an overall increase of between of between 15 per cent and 20 per cent.

And from 1 January next year the Jersey Electricity Company will increase prices by at least 25 per cent
