A new 24-bed community centre is to begin operations this month, providing housing and jobs for homeless in Oxford. Run by the Oxford branch of the Emmaus international charitable movement which provides alternative solutions for homeless people, the new centre at 171 Oxford Road Cowley was financed by the Homes and Communities Agency, with top-up funding from communities and local government. The new residents, or companions as they are called at Emmaus, will be given full-time work recycling furniture and other household goods at the charity
