English on the decline in Denmark

Danes used to the best non-mother tongue English speakers in the world, second only to Sweden.

According to the Education First English Proficiency Index (EF EPI) Norway, the Netherlands and Estonia have now all overtaken Denmark, although Danes are still better than Austrians and Finns at speaking English.

It is not because Danes are getting worse, just that other countries are getting better, according to one language school in Copenhagen.

While English visitors to Norway and the Netherlands know that they can launch into their mother-tongue and expect a good response it is not so well known that they will also feel at home in Estonia.
