American craft and vintage online trading site Etsy has opened its first international headquarters in Berlin. Founded in 2005 by Robert Kalin as an online marketplace for sellers of handmade and vintage items, such as furniture, jewellery and clothing, Etsy now operates in 150 countries worldwide and had revenues in 2009 of $180 million.

The Berlin office, in the Kreuzberg district, will be a multifunction exhibition space, gallery, workshop and community centre. Etsy raises revenue by charging a fee for listings and a percentage of the final sale price.
