Exploring Oxford

Oxford has launched a new guide system for visitors called Oxford Expore. Signs, maps and smart phone linkups provide pedestrians not only with directions but also information and images about the various attractions as well as the history and traditions of the city.

About 70 signs will be installed, with the first one officially unveiled at the corner of Queen Street and St Aldate’s at the beginning of September. Others will include Carfax Tower, Oxford Castle and the Covered Market and there will be signs along St Giles and the High Street.

Oxford Explore is designed to take pedestrians off the beaten track, to discover places away from the usual tourist attractions. The city estimates that about 9.5 million people visit Oxford each year.
