A ban on trucks through Dublin city centre has come into force. Under the new restrictions, introduced on 19 February, truckers need a permit to drive through the centre of town from 07.00-19.00 and are required to use the motorway and recently opened port tunnel to access Dublin Port. Despite initial protests the ban has been declared a success after just one week: the number of trucks using city approach roads to access the port are reportedly down 80-90 percent, while delivery vehicles in the city centre are down to 300 or so daily.
