Following protests by local residents 993 parking spaces in the historic districts of Fuencarral-El Pardo, Carabanchel and Hortaleza are to become free of charge. The spaces are currently controlled by the parking authority SER (Servicio de Estacionamiento Regulado) on a pay-by-the-hour basis. The resident-only parking in the same zones will be maintained at the current level of 1,074 spaces in Carabanchel, 417 in Hortaleza and 792 in Fuencarral.
