French rail strike

As the French rail strike goes into its seventh day on Tuesday 17 June only about a quarter of the trains were running in the Paris region, with many international connections to Spain, Switzerland and Italy cancelled.

The state railways SNCF said that up to two thirds of trains on the TGV lines would be out of action.

Railway workers are striking over reforms, reorganisation and cost-cutting measures proposed by the SNCF to cut its debt of €40 billion, which is set to double in 2015.
