French railways strike

Train passengers throughout France can expect delays until Friday 26 October because of strikes in protest against restructuring plans by the state railway SNCF. Travellers have been advised to contact their local station or check the SNCF website for detailed information.

Normal services are expected on the Eurostar and Thalys routes to Germany, Switzerland and Italy.

The strikes should be over just in time for the All Saints’ holiday weekend, the last before Christmas.

Four unions are striking against major structural and management changes expected at SNCF, as well as for a larger pay increase to bring union members up to the rate of inflation.

One of the unions, the CGT, is also threatening to strike at Air France on 26 October in protest against the Air France-KLM restructuring plans.
