Jersey harbour authorities have now given HD Ferries the go-ahead to restart its service between the island and the French port of St Malo.

The sailings of the company's vessels were suspended for a week after a collision on 28 July between one of its boats that of its main competitor, Condor Ferries, on the link between the island and St Malo. The HD Ferries' boat was badly holed above the waterline, although the Condor catamaran suffered little structural damage.

HD Ferries has had two other accidents since it started its low-cost service to France in March this year. One was a collision in Jersey harbour in May with a Condor boat and the other was in open water when it is thought to have tangled with a lobster pot.
