Several groups in Jersey are organising fund raising events to help victims of the increasing political violence in Kenya in the wake of the December 2007 elections. Jersey-educated doctor, Hezron McObewa, who returned to his country after his medical studies in the United Kingdom, has been appealing for help for medical supplies for his practice in Kisumu, a town in the west of Kenya which has been the scene of much violence since the disputed general elections on 27 December.

Children at Springfield School have been raising funds for a school in Kisumu and Jersey resident, Sue Deans, who was in Kisumu during the first outbreaks of violence at the end of December has been appealing for money for her Kisumu Orphans Education Fund.
