Diesel fuel made in the island from old chip oil is now on sale. It is being produced by Channel Island Biodiesel Products Ltd, in St Mary, and will cost around 70p per litre.

The company collects waste cooking oil from restaurants and take-aways and converts it into fuel.

Steve Harrison, who runs the company, said he could convert around five tons of fuel a week. Before his operation was up and running, the oil was shipped to the UK for disposal.

The locally-produced biodiesel will be used to fuel vehicles of the States of Jersey
