All civil servants working for Viennas city government have been given incentives to change from Microsoft Office 2000 to OpenOffice.org and from Microsoft Windows 2000 to GNU/Linux. Every city department has been offered an annual discount of 62 for every desktop computer that installs OpenOffice.org, as well as an additional 31 for every desktop computer that switches from the Windows operating system to Linux. The changeover process has already started and since September of 2005, 2,500 computers have been reconfigured. Roughly 7,500 computers in total could change to OpenOffice.org and 4,800 to Linux.
