In a further sign of the times, passenger numbers using Dublin's tram service, the 'Luas' have fallen by almost 2.5 million so far this year. A statement from the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) has revealed that numbers are down between 5 and 10 per cent across the city, with a significant decline in commuters on the red line to Tallaght.

Chief executive of the RPA, Frank Aiken said that the new Luas extension to the O2 Arena in Dublin's Docklands would be completed in October and more than likely be up and running by Christmas of this year.
