A police officer from Madrid is to be stationed in New York as part of an international liason programme set up by the New York Police Department (NYPD) to counter terrorism and coordinate intelligence-gathering worldwide. The formal agreement was signed in late February by law enforcement officials from the two cities at NYPD headquarters at One Police Plaza. Since 2002, the NYPD has stationed detectives in ten foreign cities including Madrid. Currently police officers from the national police departments of Jordan, Jamaica and South Korea, as well as the city of Toronto, are working at the NYPD.
