With more than 6.7 million visitors in 2006, Madrid is now the fourth most visited capital city in Europe after London, Paris and Rome. The Spanish capital has seen the number of visitors increase by 40 per cent in the past four years, a trend that looks set to continue with over three million visits already recorded in the first five months of this year. The Madrid municipal government is aiming for a total of seven million visitors for 2007.
