More families to get Oxford welfare benefits

More Oxford families may now be eligible for both council tax and housing benefit after the council changed the way that these benefits are calculated. From 2 November child benefit has no longer been included in the calculation of family income, and the council estimates that many more families who fell just outside the benefit boundaries may now be eligible.

Councillor Ed Turner, the board member for finance, said that the council would contact all families currently receiving benefit, however he also wanted to highlight the changes to those not already in receipt of it.
