A further 3 million has been put aside to resurface the A34 north of Oxford this autumn. Earlier this year, the highways agency announced a 7 million project to resurface the five-mile stretch between Oxfords Peartree roundabout and Weston-on-the-Green. This came after years of campaigning by residents living in Kidlington and surrounding areas for a quieter surface. The 3 million upgrade will take the full cost of the project to 10 million and is thought to make the road deeper and quieter and that it will last longer.

The work is to begin on Monday 12 September and was due to end in January 2006 but completion of the project is now thought to be at the end of February.

Most work will take place at night during the week with two traffic lanes being kept open in each direction during peak hours. Drivers are being advised to find alternative routes during weekends as work will continue on Saturdays and Sundays. For free email updates subscribe at
