New Holocaust memorial for London

Top architects and artists shortlisted for Holocaust monument near Westminster.

The ten shortlisted designs for a new Holocaust Memorial in London have been announced by the organisers of the international competition, the UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation and the British government.

The structure, whose official title is the National Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre,

will be installed in a prominent location in the capital's Victoria Tower Gardens next to the Houses of Parliament in Westminster.

The memorial will honour the victims and survivors of the Holocaust and Nazi persecution, and the design competition is being managed by Malcolm Reading Consultants.

The ten shortlisted entries include designs by top architects and artists, including Zaha Hadid Architects in collaboration with British-Indian artist Anish Kapoor; Caruso St John Architects with UK artists Marcus Taylor and Rachel Whiteread; and Allied Works (US) with Scottish artist Robert Montgomery.

Each of the proposals is on public display at various venues in the UK, in addition to online, and the jury will announce the winning entry in the summer.
