New Year's events held in Dublin over three days

New Year's festivities begin on 30 December with Love Dublin Day which comprises live music and free family-friendly cultural events in various locations across the city from midday until 18.00.

However the highlight of the Three NYE Dublin Festival is the Countdown Concert at 20.30 on New Year’s Eve at College Green and Dame St in the city centre. Now in its third edition, this year's musical line-up includes London ska band Madness, Irish singer Ryan Sheridan and Irish act The Strypes, and tickets cost €25. It is preceded by The People’s Procession of Light which takes place at St Stephen's Green at 18.00 when hundreds of performers illuminate the night sky with light displays, music and dance.

The festival ends on 1 January with The Big Brunch at Meeting House Square in the Temple Bar quarter at 11.00. Visitors are promised a "hearty brunch" as well as live music, a Vintage Tea Dance, a group Céilí, children's entertainment and theatrical performances.

Dublin's mayor Oisín Quinn said, “I’m calling on all Dubliners and visitors to our city to come into Dublin city centre to celebrate New Year’s Eve in style."

The capital's New Year's festivities mark the end of The Gathering, a major tourism-led initiative aimed at attracting the extensive Irish diaspora back to Ireland on holiday, in addition to the usual foreign tourists.
