Paris hosts floating cinema on river Seine
Parisians watch movies on boats floating in the river Seine.
The French capital celebrates the return of Paris Plages, the annual urban beach, by hosting its first 'floating cinema' on the city's river Seine.
Titled Cinéma sur l’Eau, the initiative will let up to 150 people watch big-screen movies on the banks of the Seine from the comfort of 38 electric boats in the river.
The floating cinema, which begins on 18 July, is a quirky alternative to the city's movie theatres which have reopened recently after the covid-19 lockdown.
Organisers, cinema chain Mk2, say the initiative guarantees social distancing, with each boat capable of hosting groups of two, four or six people (from the same family or group of friends).
The movie festival kicks off on 18 July at 19.30 with the screening of the comedy Le Grand Bain, with the 150 people on boats joined by another 150 on deck chairs along the riverbank.
