Paris authorities have distributed a free interactive smartphone family planning app for school and college students. Carte XY allows students via their mobiles to be prescribed the contraceptive pill free and anonymously and, using geotagging, shows the location of the nearest family planning clinic where, for example, terminations are available. Last year 17,000 young people between the ages of 15 and 25 in Paris used family planning facilities, and nine minors out of every 1,000 had an abortion. Four new family planning clinics are to open in the fifth, 10th, 18th and 20th districts, and a draft agreement with city doctors willing to provide young people with free consultations is being drawn up.
