Staff in Jersey of the chain store Woolworths will not receive any redundancy payment following the closure of the island branch at the end of December.

More than 40 employees have been told they will receive no form of payment because Jersey does not have a redundancy compensation scheme.

In the UK, every employee receives a severance payment if the company they work for goes into administration.
