Local Oxford residents are so enthusiastic about recycling that the Redbridge recycling centre next to the park-and-ride site off Abingdon Road is being forced to close on some occasions. The bins provided for collecting recyclable materials have been overflowing recently to the point of having to be cordoned off. At present the bins are emptied twice a week but managers of the centre are now thinking of increasing the frequency of the collections.

Oxfordshire is one of the best performing authorities in the country when it comes to recycling. Each of the countrys five district councils has beaten government recycling targets and has met composting rates for 2003-2004.
