The municipal market in Madrid's Santa Maria de la Cabeza district has re-opened after six months of renovation work costing 3.1million. Now housing a supermarket alongside the traditional market stalls, the new centre will serve around 29,000 local residents. The renovations have halted the decline in the popularity of the market, which had seen the closure of 30 percent of its former 145 stalls over the past 6 years. There are currently no vacant stalls in Santa Maria de la Cabeza's new commercial centre.
