The number of Oxford families evicted from their homes dropped by a third in the first three quarters of 2009 compared to the same period in the previous year, according to figures released by UK housing charity Shelter, reports the Oxford Mail.

From January to September 2009, 295 families in Oxford lost their homes after failing to meet mortgage or rent repayments. During the same period in 2008 438 families were made homeless.
