Spain's illegal immigrants to pay for health

Immigrants in Spain without legal documents will have to pay for health care from Saturday 1 September. This includes both cancer and HIV treatment.

Illegal immigrants who have managed to acquire a health card – and this has been easy enough to obtain in the past – will have it removed.

However the minister of health has said that this does not mean that those who are in the country without papers will be refused health care, just that they will now have to pay for it in order to meet EU regulations.
