Gymnasiums, changing rooms, lecture rooms, conference halls and a medical centre with rehabilitation facilities are to be built on municipal land ceded by the Madrid city council in the El Ensanche de Vallecas neighbourhood in the south of the Spanish capital. Five football pitches are also to be created on the almost 76,000 sqm of vacant land. The venture is a joint effort between the local community, the Madrid city council and the educational and sporting association Fundacin Rayo Vallecano. The new project will benefit more than 300,000 people in the nearby suburbs of Puente and Villa de Vallecas as well. The sporting village, to be named Ciudad Deportiva del Rayo Vallecano, will also provide training grounds and facilities for local football teams.
