Oxford city centre is to see church-sponsored late night patrols of street pastors, under a scheme set up by the Ascension Trust.

Street pastors, who aim to help the vulnerable on the streets, were originally pioneered by Reverend Les Isaac in the Brixton area of London in 2003. There are now 125 teams of street pastor volunteers working throughout the country. Thames Valley Police and the city council welcomed the move.
