Workers on London underground will strike on New Year's Eve over disagreements with London Transport over the working week, mannning levels and safety. Negotiations broke down just before Christmas and the walkout will be from midday on 31 December to midday on 1 January. Another strike is also scheduled for 8-9 January.

Transport authorities in London are worried that drunken driving will increase if the underground is not running during the end-of-year festivities.
