The Mall closes for Jubilee and Olympics

Parts of The Mall in central London are now closed to traffic in preparation for the four-day celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee from 2-5 June and the Olympic Games that start on 27 July.

On 3 June 13 bridges across the river Thames will also be closed for most of the day for the grand pageant on the river when 1,000 boats sail from Battersea Bridge in the west to Tower Bridge in the east in honour of the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.

The Mall has been closed to prepare for the BBC jubilee concert in front of Buckingham Palace on 4 June starring British and Commonwealth musicians, including Paul McCartney and Kylie Minogue.

The Mall, which runs from Trafalgar Square to Buckingham Palace, will remain closed until September as it is the location for the start and finish of many of the Olympic Games’ cycling events.
