Vienna University has removed the controversial Siegfriedskopf monument from its original location in the main hall and erected it in the universitys inner "Arkadenhof courtyard in a new glass casing. The stone head representing Sieigfried, one of the heroes of the epic "Nibelunglied poem, was installed in the hall by an all-male anti-Semitic group known as the German Fraternity, which also excluded communists. Initially its removal was opposed by the Heritage Office. The new glass casing, inscribed with texts describing the statues history, resolves the dilemma of the monuments destiny while also promoting debate, according to university rector Georg Winckler.
