Austria gave permission at the end of November to extend hunting wild boar throughout the whole of the capital Vienna. Game hunting has always been allowed in some special reserves but now killing boar and other wild animals is allowed throughout the city in order to prevent the animals become a public menace.

Boars have become a nuisance in many central areas where they have been digging up gardens and rummaging through garbage bins.

Special rangers are authorised to kill boar and other wild animals but only if they are a danger to the public or if they are ill and diseased.
