29 Sept-4 Oct 2006. Berlins Messe Exhibition halls host the 11th edition of Art Forum Berlin, the international trade fair for contemporary art. 120 galleries from 25 countries present the work of new and established artists working in video, photography, paintings, sculptures, installations, graphics and multimedia. This years special exhibition is entitled Big City Lab, focussing on the metropolitan myth as both positive and negative visions of modernity. The Art Forum also presents a series of talks on art and cultural politics by international experts; topics include Beyond the Mediterranean - Emerging Art Scenes (30 Sept at 15.00), Africa I South Africa (2 Oct at 17.30) and Aesthetic Positions in the 21st Century (3 Oct at 15.00). The German capital is also staging a world-class cultural programme in museums, galleries and clubs across Berlin parallel to the Forum. The vernissage follows the press conference and professional preview (29 Sept 16.00).
