21-27 May 2009. For seven days Barcelona becomes home to millions of written and spoken words, as it celebrates poetry on an enormous scale. Approaching the subject in a readily accessible style, the aim of the festival is to allow poetry to transcend language barriers and "become part of our everyday lives" incorporating spaces like the windows of the city's trains and buses. It also seeks to harness poetry by means of art and music, with the objective of bringing it closer to the viewer and listener. Established and up-and-coming poets from all over the world worship the written word with workshops dedicated to poetry in various venerable venues.
