4-6 Aug 2006. This is the tenth edition of the annual summer Berlin Bierfest, which takes place along the beer mile on the historic Karl-Marx-Allee, from Frankfurter Tor to Strausburger Platz. Showcasing beer from small privately-owned German breweries, the festival also offers brews from 80 different countries. This years new brands include Voodoo Dark from Benin, Poker Beer from Columbia, Gurkha Beer from Nepal, Ruebezahl Beer from Bohemia and Crocodile Beer from Australia. Highlights include live music on 18 stages set up along the Karl-Marx-Allee and a procession of vintage brewery vehicles through the city centre on 5 Aug (13.00-15.00). The official Bierfest beer mug (0.2 litres) is available at special stands along the beer mile for 3.50. For 1.50 beer fanciers can have the mug filled with any of the 1,750 brands of beer on offer in the worlds longest beer garden.
